Comprehensiveness is meant to indicate that CCIs seek to strengthen all sectors of neighborhood well-being, including social, educational, economic, physical, and cultural components, while addressing the interrelationships among them. Community-building places priority on a resident-driven approach that values local knowledge and participation in all stages of the revitalization effort. The principles of comprehensiveness and community building are increasingly guiding a wide range of publicly and privately sponsored community development efforts. In addition to CCIs, community-based efforts in education, health, youth development, crime prevention, substance abuse, child development, child welfare, and other areas also draw on these ideas. |
