Although CCIs are neighborhood-focused change efforts, they recognize and take into account that the well-being of the neighborhood is deeply influenced by the structures and systems beyond its borders. Thus, many CCIs include an implicit, and often an explicit, commitment to making public policies as well as public, private, and nonprofit institutions more responsive to the needs of low income communities. The readings in this section explore how CCIs go about influencing public policy and reforming institutions beyond the neighborhood. |
